Whatstandwell Wander

This walk starts at a point where railway line, canal, road and river are all within a stone's throw of one another: Whatstandwell. We walk along a section of the Cromford Canal and wend our way up to Crich via Wakebridge. Crich Stand is very well known in the area for its Memorial Tower, built in 1923 as a memorial to the Sherwood Foresters, and not the first structure to be built there. The trig point is at 286 metres above sea level and from the Stand brilliant views are to be had on a good day. Rumour has it that Lincoln Cathedral and the Humber Bridge can both be seen, but is that a slight exaggeration?
