Matlock to Tansley (and back!)

This walk takes us from Matlock Hall Leys Park to Tansley and back. En route we explore the steep sided gorge of Lumsdale, with its magnificent falls, which act as a magnet for walkers and visitors all year round. Lumsdale is renowned for its industrial past  and a whole section of former mills and associated buildings are now classed as protected scheduled ancient monuments. Tansley was  once a village with thee cotton mills, including Scholes (Unwin's) Mill, which the Derbyshire Historic Environment Record describes as a 'former cotton spinning mill (later used for the manufacture of red tape) with manager's house attached'.
